US Virgin Island Vacations

If you only choose one reason to go to the US Virgin Islands, the beaches should be it. They are, quite simply, amazing. If you’re not happy to lie on the golden sand, soaking up the sun (as if that were possible) then there is excellent scuba diving on St John, St Croix and St Thomas. You could also opt for snorkeling, although the sights aren’t quite as amazing as when you go down to the reefs.

Buck Island

Close to the beaches we’ve mentioned above, Buck Island is uninhabited, and has some amazing hiking trails, as well as superb snorkeling on the protective reefs. Then, when you’ve worked up an appetite, you can relax on the beach with lunch. Even the boat trip out to the island is fun, so it’s definitely a must do if you’re going to be in the islands.

Cruzan Rum Factory

If you like to see how things work, a trip to the Cruzan Rum factory is great – not only do you get to see how the rum is made; you can watch how the barrel makers manufacture the barrels. Then, sample the wares, but be warned – rum is potent stuff, so pace yourself!

National Park

The Virgin Islands National Park takes up a lot of the island of St John, and has some awesome hiking trails, unspoiled beaches, wildlife and birds. If you like nature, and want to see more of the islands, it’s a great place to get away from it all.

There is a campsite, so if roughing it is not a problem, you can spend some time in a tent, or go to Caneel Bay, which is an eco resort that also offers tennis, restaurants and other amenities if you’re a little more fond of creature comforts.

Golf and Shopping

Here’s a clever idea for you: the US Virgin Islands have some amazing golf courses, St Croix and St Thomas being two of the best. There’s also a whole array of duty free shopping options, and no sales tax, so if you shop in the islands, you’re likely to find plenty of bargains.

So pack him off for a round or two, while you head off to Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas, to work out your credit card!Even if you do nothing more strenuous than laze on the beach, and enjoy the sights and scents, as well as the cuisine and tastes of the US Virgin Islands, you’re guaranteed a trip you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Plus, you’ll return home with one heck of a tan, no matter when you visit, since the weather is great all year round.
