Things To Do In Sweden

-- Things To Do In Sweden --

Things To Do In Sweden

If you’re anything like me, chances are you’ve never really considered Sweden as a holiday destination. However, there are some fantastic, unique and romantic sights in this low profile country, and you’re sure to find something to surprise or delight.

Ice Hotel

If you are looking for the unique hotel experience (and a great excuse to snuggle up to someone special, then a trip to the world famous ice hotel in the north of Sweden is an absolute must. Plus, the hotel is reconstructed every year, so if you do plan a trip in the cold winter, you’re guaranteed to be staying in a brand new establishment!

Liseberg Park

I don’t know about you, but there’s something about a theme park that brings out the little kid in me. The rides, the junk food. It’s just good old fashioned fun, especially when you experience it with someone special. Liseberg is a must see if you feel the same way – it’s both the largest, and the oldest theme park in the country. So make sure to include it on your itinerary, and you’ll have a great excuse to let your inner child come out and play for a while.

Things To Do In Sweden

Visby

Even if you know that the middle ages weren’t all about knights and princesses, there’s still something a little romantic about the idea of pretending that you are a princess or a knight, and Visby, being one of the best preserved medieval towns in Europe, is a great backdrop for that particular fantasy. The town square, the city wall, and many of the streets and alleys are unchanged, so let your imagination run riot, and explore the old town.

Lapland

If you like the idea of spending some time in a true wilderness and a winter wonderland to boot, Lapland is a perfect destination for you. It’s also home to some of the indigenous people of Sweden, so if cultural experiences are your cup of tea, it’s a great way to see how people lived in Sweden before it was modernized. Otherwise, just go to see the real, untamed Sweden, find a cozy little cottage somewhere, and forget for a while that the rest of the world exists.

Stockholm

Stockholm is like most modern cities, with restaurants, bars and nightlife, Things To Do In Swedenas well as shopping, and great accommodation. If you want something a little different though, head to Gamla Stan, or the old town.

It’s another one of those fairytale places, which has been around since the thirteenth century, and has some fabulous hotels. I don’t know why, but for some reason, old towns and cities just have that nostalgic, romantic air about them, and strolling through the streets, taking in the sights, is one of life’s simple pleasures.

Other than cities, unique hotels and well preserved slices of history, Sweden also has lakes, mountains, forests, and many other natural wonders, and if you’re looking for peace, quiet, beauty, and something a little different, this is a great place to find it.
