Romantic Photography

Taking your sweetheart out for a romantic photography session is something that every couple should try at least once.

The shoot can be seductive, intimate, or playful and funny. Just as long as the photos reflect the two of you and your relationship.

My personal favorite romantic photographs are black and white.

The best part is that you'll have a life long souvenir for years to come. Growing old together you can look back at yourselves like your frozen in time.

Here are some tips on how you can end up with the best photos possible:

* Do a little research online to find some romantic photos that you really like. Print them out and bring them along with you to show the photographer exactly what you want.

* Bring outfits that will compliment each other. If you're going for a dressy look, make sure you both have something dressy to match.

* Bring more outfits than you think you'll need. Who knows, you might have only planned on doing dressy shots, but once you get there the photographer has a great idea that suits more casual clothes. If you're prepared with many different looks and you can't go wrong.

* Women should show up with simple hair and makeup, and bring along whatever is needed to fix themselves up while they're there (makeup, hair accessories, ect.)

* Bring props. These really come in handy, especially if you aren't sure what to do with yourself in front of a camera. They also help create a story to a picture.

* Try to bring clothes to wear that are close to your skin tone. If you're very pale, dont wear a black dress. The contrast can be hard for a photographer to get right. The same is true with dark skin tones. Don't bring something all white to wear if your skin tone is very dark.

* Bring your favorite music / boombox to play during your shoot. Bring something that will help you relax and feel sexy.

* For women: Try a spray on tan, or some clip-in hair extensions. They're quick and not too expensive, and if you like the look, it'll be worth it.

Common Types Of Romantic Photography

Boudoir Photography - This is a very common type of romantic photography that many couples decide upon. The shoot can either be on location (in your bedroom for example) or in a studio setting. The subjects are usually in some form of lingerie or undergarment, with lots of satin and silky textures, making the photos turn out very sexy and sensual.

Artistic / Fantasy Photography - Bring your fantasies to life and capture them on film. Get dressed up in costumes for your romantic photography session, like its Halloween. Choose your theme (Vampire, Medieval, Renaissance, Pin-up, etc) and make it happen. Do it for your partner!

If you find a photographer who specializes in this, chances are they will already have access to the costumes and props you need. This way you wont have to go out and spend a bunch of money on these and only use them once.

Portraiture - This is your basic straight on romantic photography, which is great for photos you'd like to put up around the house. They are meant to be elegant, not too sexy.

Black & White / Sepia - Color photos are great, but see if your photographer will take some black and white or sepia photos for you. These photos are beautiful and create a timeless look. Look online for examples to see if this type of photo appeals to you.

Outdoors - Depending on the time of day, an outdoor photoshoot can have some of the best lighting. The hour before dusk and the hour after dawn for example, the sunlight turns a beautiful golden color. The light isn't too intense or washed out like other times during the day.

Its also easier outdoors to find props and a variety of different settings to set the stage for your photos. Use trees, rivers, rocks, old buildings, old steps, hay bails or an old park as your setting. Be creative. Your photographer should also know of some great spots to utilize.
