Romantic Balcony

by Sybel Herring
(Lawrenceville, GA)

I set up our apartment balcony for a romantic dinner for my husband. First I bought a folding table and chairs and then covered the table with a plastic decorative rose tablecloth. I put a red weather-proof carpet underneath the table and I used white curtains to drape around the openings of the balcony to give it a Grecian look. Then I used fake rose vines to put across the tops and bottoms of the balcony rails. I put our best tableware and candle holders on the table with fresh flowers. I folded the napkins into a heart shape (I had trouble deciding on that or the dove). Make sure you use candles that evaporate (I learned the hard way).I brought out a folding tray to put the ice bucket, corkscrew, and ice tongs on and decorated it too with a short table runner and a small bud vase with flowers. Also,I bought one of those disposable ice coolers and decorated it with floral wrapping paper and topped it with a silk rose and ribbons. I found two red chenille throws and draped them over the chairs and put a red chenille pillow in each chair.I filled it with ice and put in the extra bottles of champagne. I brought out a CD player out and plugged it in the outside outlet and played smooth jazz. I lead a trail of rose petals from the front door to the back door to the balcony. I changed into a long sexy gown, cooked my husband's favorite meal and needless to say when he got home he was very pleasantly surprised. My neighbors heard the jazz music and my husband and I laughing and asked me to help them set up their balcony too!
