Riviera Maya Attractions

If you thought Mexico was all sombreros, dusty villages, mariachi bands and spicy food, you’ve been missing out!

The Riviera Maya, on the Yucatan Peninsula, is paradise on earth, and for a beach side holiday that still has that uniquely Mexican flavor, you can’t beat this beautiful stretch of land.

Cancun

Cancun is without doubt, a great place for a beach holiday, with water sports, nightlife and entertainment that will keep you busy from the moment you arrive. However, Cancun is a very tourist oriented, and you may not even realize that you are in Mexico.

There’s no doubt that this is a great holiday spot, but if you want a little local culture and flavor, you might want to head to another destination on the Riviera Maya!

Tulum

On the other end of the spectrum, there’s Tulum. This is certainly authentic Mexico, and you could even call it undeveloped. It’s still got the beautiful beaches, amazingly green jungles, and the warm waters, but it’s more for the tourist who doesn’t need to be entertained constantly.

There are some amazing Mayan ruins here though, so if you are interested in history, it’s a great place to visit. Otherwise, wander through the streets of the authentic Mexican village, sample the spicy cuisine, laze on the beach with a good book, and just get away from it all.

Other Things to Do

When you travel to the Riviera Maya, you’re really going somewhere that offers everything you could possibly want. In the more developed tourist towns, there are malls and theme parks. There are restaurants and nightclubs, where you can learn to salsa.

There are opportunities to swim with dolphins, or snorkel and scuba dive on reefs and sunken ships. If you like adventure, there are parasailing, hiking and charter boats that will take you out for deep sea fishing, or if you don’t like fishing, just a cruise around the coast.

The weather is fabulous, the people are friendly, and the food is great. You can sip a Corona on the beach in one of the small, isolated towns, and feel like you’re all alone in the world, or spend a crazy day beside the pool at one of the luxury hotels in Cancun.

You won’t have to pack too much either – the weather is great in Riviera Maya, and aside from your tiniest bikini, a sarong, sun hat, and some flip flops, you might find that other luggage stays in your suitcase!

This is a romantic, exotic, warm and sultry location, which might make it such a popular honeymoon location. Then again, getting married in the Riviera Maya is also a popular choice, so if you are feeling romantic, why not tie the knot on one of those beaches?

Whatever you do choose to do in the Riviera Maya, chances are you won’t want to go home, and with good reason. This is a fun, friendly, fabulous place to spend a holiday – no matter what you’re looking for.
