Places To Visit In Turkey

Turkey is certainly an interesting place to visit. In fact, it’s kind of like a bridge, linking east and west. It’s this that makes it so diverse, and also gives visitors so much choice. So if you’re looking for a holiday destination that combines a little bit of Europe with a little Middle East, and a few extra unique features of neither, Turkey is the place to go.
IstanbulNot only is Istanbul Turkey’s largest city, but it’s also the only one in the world that straddles two continents. Yup. Depending on where you are in Istanbul, you’re either in Europe, or Asia. That’s a little strange, but it is something that you can’t do every day! -- Places To Visit In Turkey --
ShoppingTurkey is a bargain hunter and haggler’s dream. In fact, haggling is not only accepted, it’s expected too. With Turkey being the world’s largest leather producer, you’ve got to buy at least one or two souvenirs of their very important (and beautiful) export! There are also stalls and stores selling beautiful carpets and kilims, handmade Cappadocian pottery, and exquisite silk dresses and scarves. Turkish delight, coffee, unique Meerschaum souvenirs, and famous Marmaris honey are also great buys, either for yourself, or as gifts. In fact, if you go to Turkey without shopping, then you’ve missed out completely - this is a shopper’s paradise!
Food Turkish food is as unique as the country. It’s a mixed bag of European, Mediterranean and Asian influences. One thing it’s not though is bland and boring. Like the shopping, you cannot spend any amount of time in Turkey without sampling the local dishes. Start with lentil soups flavored with spice; enjoy the famous kebabs, and meze, including local olives and cheeses. There are restaurants serving local cuisine in all the larger cities and towns, so you have no excuse. And you won’t be sorry you made the time! -- Places To Visit In Turkey --
Raki If you’re in turkey, and feeling brave, then sampling the local brand of firewater known as Raki is a good idea – stick to a strict limit though – it has one heck of a kick! There are also many other non alcoholic local beverages to try, as well as beer, wine and the famous Turkish coffee, so you’re spoilt for choice in that area too.
WalkIn a country that’s so different, why not choose a different way to see it? Taking one of the long distance walking trails, either Lycian Way, or St Paul’s Trail, will let you see a lot of the countryside, villages and markets – around five hundred kilometers to be exact, whichever you choose. If you’re up for it though, there is accommodation along the way, you get to see the amazing scenery, meet the locals, and stay in villages, so there really is no better way to see the real Turkey. Just remember to pack some really, really comfortable shoes! There’s just so much diversity in Turkey, with ancient ruins, like those at Pergamon, to explore, nightlife in the big cities, Mediterranean beaches, museums are and scenery. In fact, no matter what you’re looking for in a holiday, you’ll find it, and more, in this fascinating country. -- Places To Visit In Turkey --
