One Valentine's Night

by Don
(SF Bay Area CA USA)

The view at the back of my house..

The view at the back of my house..

Valentines Day 2008 was one of, or should I say THE best valentines day I've had so far. At 27 years old, I had figured it was about time to step up my game.

I had my Valentine, a good friend who I've always liked since I had first met her 2 years prior. This was the perfect opportunity to show her that I am interested as more than just a friend.

I live in the SF Bay Area, but I am lucky enough to have a family vacation house right on the ocean in Santa Cruz. I pre planned in advance the entire night. And it begins.. I get to the house about 7pm, and start the setup. I setup dinner to be cooked, and a candle and moon lit dinner out back of the house on the lawn facing the ocean. The mix cd was ready in the stereo. I asked her to call me when she was approximately 30 minutes away so I could have dinner ready when she walked in the door.

The call finally came about 8:00pm, im getting nervous. So I start cooking, and by 8:30 dinner was ready and she arrived shortly after. Even though we had agreed to not give any gifts, every man knows that's a mistake to show up with nothing..lol. As she did as well and came with a little stuffed teddy bear and balloon for me and a hand made card that must have taken her hours to make. It was definitely one of the sweetest things anyone has ever done for me, and I cant remember ever feeling so special before that moment. I didnt give her the gift I had custom made just yet, as that would be saved for later.

Dinner is served! We ate behind the house on the lawn, where I had set up a few thick blankets on the grass to lay on. A few candles lined the brick planter bed which was our back rest.

The night couldn't have been better. Approximately 50 degrees, and not a cloud in the sky. Every star in the sky was shining brightly, the water was calm, conversation was good, freshly cooked dinner, a glass of wine, my beautiful lady, everything was just perfect. We finished dinner and layed down and wrapped up together in the blankets and just watched the water and the stars for almost an hour. At about 11:00pm, we looked at each other and we both said, "all we need now is a shooting star".. we look up and at the exact moment and we see, A SHOOTING STAR!! Definitely the stars were shining down on us that night. We both made a wish. Being almost midnight by this point, it was time to go back inside. The mood was at the point where I needed to take action, or let her go home. So it was time to step up my game...

As we go back into the kitchen to clean up, I point out a small box that was in one of the glass cabinets. She looks at me with that OMG look. She opens the box to find a silver heart on a chain that I had custom engraved with her initials. I thought she was about to cry as my gift to her was one of the sweetest gifts she had ever recieved. And with that, the night continued. She had asked if I wanted to go out to a bar and hangout there for a while, which i didnt really want to do. So I gave her 2 options, go out to a bar or stay at the house for a massage, as she had commented earlier that she was a little sore. She opted to stay at the house which was a good sign, meaning she would prefer to be alone with me, as did I with her. I brought the blankets back inside and layed them down on the floor to give her a massage. She had brought in the stereo and put her own slow mix on low volume. The massage started at about 12:30, just after midnight. To spare all the details.., She left about 3am. =) Im sure you can imagine what ensued during that 2 1/2 hour time slot which was what I had wished for on my shooting star. My wish had come true and an end to one of the best nights I have ever had.

This year, I am anxiously awaiting to see my valentine again with aspirations to improve upon last year for an even better night. Planning for this Valentines started a few weeks ago, I'm ready..

Men, step up your game. Ladies today are tired of men who only want to play and not be serious.
Ladies, there are good men out there. Its not bad to be picky, but give a man a chance to show you what he is really capable of.
