Iceland Holidays

If you’re looking for a holiday with fun and adventure, then a trip to Iceland could be a fantastic choice for you!

Contrary to the name, Iceland is not all ice and snow – far from it!

There are a whole lot of great, once in a lifetime activities and sights to see, and you’re sure to find something fantastic, as well as have a whole lot of awesome photos for the album!

Blue Lagoon

OK. As if the amazing blue water here is not enough, the Blue Lagoon is also a hot spring. If you like warm water, this will be an awesome experience for you! At forty degrees, even in winter, you can laze in the reportedly healing waters, even when the lagoon is surrounded by winter snows.

Geysers

If you like your hot water a little more explosive, then the show put on by the geysers will be right up your alley! The Great Geyser, that used to erupt a spectacular eighty meters in the air may be dormant (it’s been like that since 1916) but Strokkur, nearby the old master, still erupts every ten to fifteen minutes. Stand alongside the sulfurous landscape, and watch the super heated water shoot twenty meters or more in the air.

An Ancient Parliament

If politics and history are of interest to you, then a visit to Thingvellir should definitely be on your itinerary while in Iceland. Believe it or not, in AD930, when the rest of the world was ruling by the sword, and politics and democracy were unheard of, Iceland’s first parliament met here!

There’s also a national park, and a beautiful lake, that’s great for fishing, so once you’ve had a look at the origins of the ancient parliament, why not explore the park, or spend some time lazing by the lake?

Westmann Islands

In spite of being literally at the end of the world, the Westmann islands are paradise on earth. Visit them to view the wildlife, stroll deserted beaches, and see where Keiko, the killer whale who played the famous Willy, eventually made his home.

Also in the islands is Surtsey, which erupted in a volcanic explosion through the waves in 1963, making it the world’s youngest island, and proving that just under our world’s surface, there are big things happening! If you do like geography, or just want to see unique and interesting sites, make sure you book a tour of these islands.

Snaefellsnes Peninsula

Iceland HolidaysIf you want to explore the Icelandic coast, this is a great place to do it. Dotted with quaint and interesting fishing towns, there’s a lot to see on land. Then again, this area is also the site of the Snaefellsjokull glacier – an amazing, awe inspiring frozen river, that can be seen from as far away as Reykjavik, sixty miles away! That gives you some idea of the scale. The peninsula is also covered with solidified lava flows, hot springs and waterfalls. Or explore the caves.

These are just a few of the attractions on offer in Iceland, and whether you’re looking for relaxation in warm water, or want to see some of the most amazing natural phenomenon up close and personal, Iceland is the place to do it.

Watch the setting sun glinting off the glacier, visit the fascinating museums, or take in the sights in Reykjavik. Whatever you do, a trip to Iceland is different, unique and one that will give you fabulous photos, and great memories.
