Ever since I saw the Lord of the Rings movies, I’ve wanted to visit New Zealand!

It’s almost impossible that such a small country can have so many different kinds of landscape, but that’s exactly what New Zealand is about – talk about dynamite in small packages!

Maori Culture

If you like visiting countries with interesting indigenous cultures, then New Zealand is a great choice for you! The Maori tribes that have lived there for centuries have an interesting culture, interesting customs, and fascinating history. If you’re a rugby fan, you’ll have seen the Hakka of the All Blacks, and that’s just one part of Maori tradition.

Looking at the traditional tattoos, their villages, and other aspects of Maori culture is very interesting, and a great idea if you’re planning to visit New Zealand.

Auckland

When in Auckland, make sure you visit the maritime museum. Even if you have no interest whatsoever in the shipping history of New Zealand, it’s the perfect opportunity to be photographed with a very unfortunately named steamboat. The SS Puke is also New Zealand’s oldest steamboat, but it will make a memorable snap for your photo album…

Then again, if you like unusual dining, and want an experience you’ll remember forever, book a dinner at Orbit. It’s 190 meters above ground level, in the Sky Tower, the tallest structure in the Southern Hemisphere. You can eat your dinner here, and on a clear evening, see as far as eighty kilometers around the tower!Just outside Auckland, you can visit Waitakere Ranges National Park, for a tour of the rainforest, or take a sunset cruise from the harbor. Either of which is great if you like your holidays close to nature, but still with all the comforts of home.

Wellington

If you like great views, a trip on the Wellington cable car is a great idea for a peaceful, romantic day trip. Then again, you can also go star gazing indoors in Wellington! Carter Observatory brings the stars, and the Southern skies, up close and personal – with no chance of rain to spoil the moment!

Caves with Natural Lighting

It may seem a little weird, but a trip to see Waitomo Glowworm caves really is a once in a lifetime experience – yes, there are fantastic rock formations, but, as the name suggests, the real attraction are the millions of glowworms. It’s like an indoor starry sky. That moves. Amazing.

Rotorua

If your idea of water sport is taking a bath, Rotorua is the place for you! The hot springs are everywhere in the area, and it’s also a Maori cultural site. Now that’s multi tasking! In fact, it’s one of the top destinations for locals looking for relaxation – usually a very good indication of the best holiday spots.

You can also visit the beaches, or the Gardens, to see some of the world’s most beautiful orchids.

New Zealand seems to have everything – adventure, culture, and great wilderness areas, but still with all the comforts of home.

Whether you like your holidays five star all the way, or a little more rough and ready, beautiful, diverse New Zealand has something for you.
