Greece Vacations
-- Greece Vacations --

I don’t know about you, but when I think of my ideal holiday, lazing on the deck of a yacht, as it drifts languidly through the azure waters of the Aegean, before alighting to a candlelit dinner of seafood so fresh, it might as well still be swimming, sounds just about as close to heaven as you’re likely to get. Added to that the fact that that dinner is likely to be eaten in a seafront tavern, accompanied by soft lighting and rustic charm in spades, and you have the recipe for an amazing trip.
The IslandsThe scene I’ve mentioned above is exactly the kind of thing you’re likely to find if you plan a trip to the thousands of idyllic islands that make up a large portion of Greece. Peace, quiet, glorious sunshine and shear, hedonistic relaxation. I think I’d find it hard to drag myself away from that when the time is up!
Ancient RuinsAnother thing that Greece has in abundance, given it’s well earned reputation as the birthplace of modern civilization, is well preserved ancient ruins. Whether you’re talking Olympia, where you can walk in the footsteps of the very first competitors in the Olympic Games, or the Acropolis, lit up above modern day Athens, or the Oracle of Delphi at the foot of Mount Parnassus. Now, I’ve never been one for history – but when you’re in the presence of these kinds of marvels, so well preserved that you can almost hear the echoes of ancient voices, it’s hard not to let your imagination run wild, and picture yourself as that ancient Greek maiden, or hero. -- Greece Vacations --

Food Glorious FoodNo one can argue that there’s something sensual about food, and, arguably, the Greeks seem to have perfected the art of simple, delicious, glorious food. Think fresh seafood, cooked with garlic and lemon, the rich juices just begging to be mopped up by crusty bread. Or deliciously salty halloumi cheese, paired with fat olives, all washed down with the fiery ouzo that the country is famous for. If I managed to tear myself away from those beaches, I know where I’d spend most of my time. -- Greece Vacations --
Getting Back to NatureGreece is a rocky, mountainous country, and has some of the most striking and awe inspiring mountains. In fact, it’s at Mount Olympus, in the Pindus range, that the ancient gods were said make their home. If they’re good enough for the gods, they’re good enough for me, and some time spent wandering through the forests, or just doing nothing, in the presence of such natural beauty has to do something great for the soul.
A Touch of the Modern Despite everything though, I’m a city girl at heart, and luckily, Greece has something to offer even that requirement. Athens is all modern, bright lights and big city, with enough clubs, restaurants, shopping and other urban attractions to keep even me happy. Although, even from the city, at night, if you stand still, and just look around, you can see the touches of the ancient, and picture the city as it may have been then, when Achilles was the hero of the day, and Helen launched so many ships. -- Greece Vacations --
