Belarus used to be a part of the Soviet Union, and still has close ties with Russia. It has a whole lot of fascinating history, and beautiful landscapes to explore! Here are a few fun and interesting things you might want to try on your Belarusian holiday.
Minsk Like any big European city, Minsk has nightlife, restaurants and shopping. But if you’re looking for something you can’t do at home, exploring the history and culture of Minsk and Belarus is a unique experience! The National Museum of Belarusian History and Culture, several other museums about history and culture, and the National Arts Museum all have their home in the capital, along with museums dedicated to Belarus’s famous writers, and a whole lot of other interesting cultural and historic sites. Just outside the capital, there are other attractions, like the ethnography museum, the private Dudutki Museum of Culture, and the Museum of Folk Architecture, all interesting and worth the trip. -- Destination Belarus --

Skiing and Skating Ever wanted to try your hand at skiing? Whether you love to ski, have never touched a ski pole in your life, or want the challenge of cross country skiing, you’ll find it in Belarus. The Raubichy Olympic Sports Complex is a great place to try your hand (and feet) at cross country skiing, and the resorts of Logoysk and Silichy are great for a cozy, romantic and fun skiing holiday.
Boating If you love the romance of being on the water, head off to the Braslav Lake District, where you can have your pick of your pick of thirty different lakes, where you can rent a boat, and a captain, and spend some time relaxing on the water. There are several of the lakes that are also connected by canals, so your boating may also include floating through the forests between the various bodies of water. -- Destination Belarus --
Hiking in the WoodsYou know those forests that used to spring to mind when you read fairytales, or the ones that always seem to be in Disney movies? Well, it seems that when they wrote those, they must have been thinking of Belavezha Wood. There are plenty of hiking trails through the woods, and you can still glimpse bison, wolves and bears in this UNESCO world heritage site. Another fairytale forest that you should visit if you want to see some of the amazing scenery in Belarus is Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Park. It’s not only beautiful though – when you walk through the forest, you’re among trees that are over five hundred years old, which is a strange experience!
Belarus has a lot of very interesting culture, great nature activities, and a whole lot of historic sites to visit. So if you do go, feel free to explore the cities, nightclubs, bars and restaurants, but don’t forget to venture a little off the beaten track. With castles, fortresses, monasteries and a whole lot more to see and do; Belarus is definitely great for culture vultures. Then again, if you like to ski, skate or spend time boating, it’s also a great place to visit. -- Destination Belarus --
