Cuba Vacations

-- Cuba Vacations --

Cuba Vacations

If you’ve ever seen pictures of Havana, Cuba, chances are you’ll have noticed the tropical paradise that surrounds anyone who visits the area.

That, along with the old school architecture, and the feeling of fiesta that seems to permeate the city, makes for a great holiday!

Memories of the Golden Age

You probably know that in the early twentieth century, America had a period called prohibition. It’s during that time that the mob, and many other wealthy Americans, decided that Havana, with it’s glamorous clubs like the Tropicana, was the place to be.Since modern day Havana has changed very little, a trip to Cuba is a little like taking a trip back to that era, so put on your glitzy dancing shoes or your best suit, light up a stogie and sip a cocktail, and pretend you’re a fifties starlet, out on the town! In fact, since the Tropicana is still alive and kicking, even though it opened in 1931, you can live out your fantasy in the same place they did!

Stroll Through the Plazas

If you want to experience real Havana, a sunset stroll through Plaza Vieja, or Plaza San Fransisco, with the distant sounds of the Carribean in the background, the graceful old buildings, and the friendly people, will make you wish you can stay forever. Then again, if you’re an Ernest Hemingway fan, you’ll probably recognize the scenery – he wrote the book from a hotel overlooking the square, and you can visit the room he stayed in!

Bacardi Time!

Yup. Bacardi, makers of the world’s most famous rum, have a building in Havana. It does look a little out of place though – being modeled on the art deco buildings of old New York! Another seeming homage to New York is Parque Central. Central Park in English. Join the Cuban population for lazy afternoon conversations about everything and nothing under the trees.

Cigars

If you like cigars, or know someone who does, you cannot visit Havana without paying the Partagas factory a visit. You’ll learn about the making of cigars, but you’ll also be able to buy a few, to take home and earn some major brownie points!

Stay in the Hotel Nacional

Chances are, if you’re planning a visit to Havana, it’s as much for the culture and history as it is for the weather, food and nightlife. If you really want to channel the spirit of old Havana, staying in the Hotel Nacional, the famous hotel that housed American VIP’s during the prohibition. Stay in the same rooms, with their old world charm and luxury, and wake up feeling like you’ve escaped to the past.

Promenade

Cuba VacationsAnother thing you’re probably looking forward to, taking a trip to the Caribbean, is the ocean. A great way to experience the sea, Cuban style, is to take a slow stroll down the Malecon. Locals swim, fish, and relax here, and if you don’t fall in love with the magic of Havana here, you probably never will. Balmy, with a slower pace of life, friendly people, old world charm and a feeling of stepping back in time, if you want a Caribbean holiday with a difference, and are looking forward to pretending you’re a starlet, this is the place for you.
