Cheap Romantic Getaways
Go On A Road Trip!

-- Cheap Romantic Getaways --

There’s something so romantic about a road trip: you, your partner, and the open road ahead! So how can you turn a long car drive into a romantic road trip? It’s all in the details.

Music

Get the tunes going early to set the tone for your trip. With I-tunes, it is easier than ever before to make a good mix. Where are you going? Choose songs from that area to get you both in the mood for a fun trip. Heading to New York City? Download a mix of jazz that’s all about the Big Apple. Heading to the deep south? Some sultry music will set the scene. If the location isn’t inspiring you, then consider making a mix of songs that remind you of your relationship, or include the #1 song from each month you’ve been together. You could also download songs from the year you wre each born for a fun twist on the tunes!

Food

It has been said that one of the greatest pleasures of life is that, every few hours we need to stop what we’re doing and enjoy some delicious food. The trick to making your food romantic on a road trip is to plan ahead: it’s hard to make fast food romantic (although it can be done!). Why not pack a picnic lunch? Sandwiches, salads, juice, and snacks can be all nicely packaged up the night before. Bring along a quilt, and when you get hungry, find a nice spot to spread out. Take your time! Enjoy some sunshine, stretch your legs, and enjoy a nice meal together. When it’s all done, it’s time to get back in the car!

Stop Here and There

Another key to making a road trip romantic is to really stop and see the sights as you go. What’s the rush! “It’s good to have an end to journey towards, but it’s the journey that matters, in the end!” If you see a sign for a goat cheese farm, go have a visit! If you see a winery, stop and have a little tasting. If she sees a J. Crew outlet and is desperate to pull over, go for it (it doesn’t get much more romantic than that!).

Make a Memory

Don’t forget your camera! Pick up postcards, brochures, and little souvenirs as you go. Why not have a scrap book, scissors and tape in the car, and you can make a memory book together as you go – it will make the time go by quickly, and when you arrive home you’ll have a great souvenir! This is particularly wonderful if you have a Polaroid camera or a small portable printer for your photos.

Romantic Games

You can play some romantic games in the car – another great way to make the time go by. A fun twist on “Eye Spy” is to look for different couples on the road – look for a senior couple, a teenage couple, a motorcycle couple, etc. You can quiz each other on your relationship, asking questions such as “where was our first kiss?” Make lists of countries you’d like to visit together, and talk about your goals in life and how you picture yourselves in five, ten, or twenty years from now, depending on the stage of your relationship, of course.

A road trip can be very romantic – it’s a wonderful way to pass the time together! Be understanding of each other’s needs, and enjoy the little things along the way. Happy trails!
