Belize Vacation

If you’ve long dreamed of a tropical holiday in South America, but avoided it, because you don’t fancy the idea of having to rifle through a phrase book, or Spanish / English dictionary, then you’ll be pleased to know you won’t have to. Not if you travel to Belize, at any rate!

In fact, Belize is the only Central American country that has English as its official language, so you’ll feel right at home – on the language front at least!

Wining and Dining In Belize

Belize does of course have restaurants, so if you like to stick to safer food choices; you will find more “western” choices on their menus.

If you want to sample the real tastes of the country though, you’ll have to try the red beans, rice and chicken, served with the famous local Marie Sharp’s sauces, which is a fiery concoction of local habenero chilies! And to wash it down, why not sample the local Belikan beer?

If beer is not quite your style, but you still want to sample the local tipple, then you could choose one of the locally made rums, or even cashew wine, which is certainly different!

Take the Bus

A great way to see Belize is to take one of the bus tours – they’re generally safe, and the retired US school buses make for a comfortable, if not luxurious ride. When you take a bus trip through Belize, you’ll get to see the villages, jungles and a low mountain area, which means you’ll get to be up close and personal with the locals.

Hit the Beach

If you like your beaches less crowded with tourists, Belize is a great place to hit the beach. Since it has a Caribbean coast, you can be assured of warm, clear waters, but because Belize is not a tourist trap, like some other Caribbean destinations, you won’t have to elbow your way through tons of fellow travelers to reach the water!

Adventure!

Belize is a great place to go if you have a taste for adventure. In fact, just in the region of Belize City, you can take an air boat ride through the salt marshes, or go rafting in the caves, or even go scuba diving or snorkeling. There are also Mayan ruins to explore, and if you like nature, the eco tourism possibilities are virtually endless.

Culture and Art

A great way to learn more about Belize is to visit the museum, in Belize City. There’s also a zoo, which houses local and exotic wildlife. Belize Vacation

Then again, there are plenty of craft markets, where you can learn more about the culture, while getting in some retail therapy, and stocking up on souvenirs and keepsakes – just be wary – the local Belize Dollar is equivalent to half the US Dollar, so make sure you know which currency you’re being quoted prices in!

All in all, Belize is a great country to visit if you are looking for a romantic; fun and interesting Caribbean or South American holiday, but don’t want to go to one of the usual tourist hotspots. There’s something for everyone, and at least you’ll understand the locals! So if you do want a tropical holiday in the sun, it’s well worth considering.
