If you’re looking for the perfect, romantic, warm and sunny Caribbean holiday, then the islands of Antigua and Barbuda might just be the ideal choice.

Beaches

Famous beaches on the island, that are also less populated and more isolated, are Half Moon Bay, and Long beach, as well as the remote Darkwood. This last is at the end of a road called Fig Tree Drive, which is actually an enjoyable twenty mile drive through the island scenery itself, and if you like your beaches deserted, remote and romantic, it’s definitely worth exploring!

Nelson’s Dockyard

With so many beaches, as well as water sports like snorkeling and swimming, you might find that you do little else on your holiday. And why not? It’s your holiday after all. However, if you are interested in history and culture, then visiting Nelson’s Dockyard, where Admiral Nelson and the rest of the British Naval Fleet rested during the Napoleonic wars. There are also beautiful gardens to wander in, and even a few archaeological sites to explore.

Betty’s Hope

Like most of the islands in the Caribbean, there are colonial plantation houses dating back centuries on Antigua, and Betty’s Hope is one of those. Go for the name, or to see the restored homestead, exactly as it was all those years ago. This is a great place to visit if the history of the islands interests you as much as the beaches.

Shopping and Casinos

Just in case you get tired of the beach, or of exploring the island’s fascinating history, the Antiguans have a few solutions for you. Redcliff and Heritage bay are home to boutiques and shops, where you can buy everything from designer branded clothing to traditional island Rum.

Then there are casinos like St James Club, where you can get dressed up, gamble a little, enjoy a cocktail, and just generally have a great time.

Barbuda

With all the attractions on Antigua, you may be wondering what Barbuda has that can top that. Well, the truth is, not much. Which is the attraction.

Barbuda is a fishing haven, bird sanctuary for Frigates, and a natural paradise. If you want to really get away from it all, then make sure you spend some time on Barbuda. There are no distractions, virtually no crowds, and a whole lot of beautiful scenery.

Lazing on the beach at Barbuda, you could almost imagine you’re the only people left in the world. There aren’t many places these days with that claim to fame.

Whether you opt for the hustle and bustle of Antigua, or the pristine natural beauty of Barbuda, this is an amazing place to spend some time, and you’re guaranteed to plan a return journey.
