Anniversary Traditions
-- Anniversary Traditions --
Whether you make your own traditions up as you go, or follow specials ones that have been in your family for years, having anniversary traditions will make the date so special, every year! Whether you are celebrating your first anniversary or your thirtieth, it’s never too late to begin a new tradition! Here are some ideas to get your started!
Run Away TogetherHappy Anniversary! Celebrate your union by running off together. A vacation every year on your anniversary is a fabulous way to take a “breather” from your everyday life. Why not return to the place where you spent your honeymoon. Or, choose a new exotic place every year to explore together. It’s a great to spend time together and remember why you fell in love in the first place!
Get SentimentalIt’s time to break out the wedding albums! And the wedding video. And, maybe even the wedding dress? That might be a bit extreme, but re-visiting your special day is such a lovely way to celebrate your anniversary. Reminisce about your engagement, your wedding night, and all the celebrations that went along with the big event.
Have a ChatYour anniversary is a great time to schedule a “big talk” about a change that might happen in the future, such as the decision to have children, have more children, or move to a new city. Really listen to one another and come to a decision together. Warning! If you think this could result in an argument, save it for another day!
Gift Giving TraditionsIf you want to follow the real tradition of things, consult a chart that shows what the traditional gifts are for each year of marriage. From leather and cotton to emeralds and diamonds, there’s a traditional gift for every year of marriage. Wow your sweetheart by following the guide each year. Get creative with it! Can’t afford an emerald? Purchase a painting that features an emerald, or buy her an emerald green sweater.
Create Your Own TraditionsWhy not make up your very own tradition that you can each look forward to every year. For example, you might each plan a surprise for one another. Or, maybe you’ll serve your wife breakfast in bed? Re-read your vows to one another, or visit the church where you said your vows. Come up with something that is unique to your relationship, heartfelt, and truly special. Each year, it will become even more memorable – and who knows, maybe your own children will follow the tradition!
Be UN-traditional!You don’t need to follow any strict set of rules to celebrate your own anniversary! Make each year unique and completely untraditional by doing something different each year. It will keep your relationship fresh, and you’ll both know to expect the unexpected! Spend one year hiking through a nature trail, and the next partying in Las Vegas! Whatever you do; do it together! Wedding anniversaries are a wonderful time to reflect on the years you have spent together; and look forward to the years ahead. Whether you follow traditional anniversary traditions, create your own, or throw tradition to the wind is up to you. There’s one tradition that you can’t give up though – say “I love you!”
