Celebrating an anniversary deserves a big party – whether it’s your first, your tenth, or your fiftieth! Invite friends, family, and loved ones to join in the festivities. First, you’ll need to determine the budget and style of the event. Will it be a formal sit down dinner? Or a backyard barbecue?

Give it a Theme

The number itself can make for a fabulous theme – you can incorporate it into the invitations, the food, and the cake! Consider serving a cake shaped as a large number 25 (two cakes – one for each number). You can also bake bread rolls formed in the shape of the anniversary number – it’s a fabulous, easy, and rarely seen item to bring to an event! From loose themes such as “garden party,” or “beach,” to more elaborate theme ideas such as “Two Fishies in Love” or “Pink and Blue stripes,” you can really make your planning easier by deciding on a theme early on in the planning stages!

A Few Anniversary Party Ideas:

Picnic in the Park: Invite guests to join the happy couple in a local park for a lunch and barbecue. If you have some musical guests, invite them to bring along their instruments. Spread quilts on the ground and serve up a variety of salads, burgers, and sodas. Enjoy the sunshine!

The Year We… Incorporate a year that is special to the honored couple into the theme. Were they born in the ‘seventies? Throw a 1970s style party, complete with music and costumes. Did they tie the knot in the eighties? Start downloading eighties and let guests know the dress code! Tip: Play movies from your era in the background (with the sound off) to add to the ambiance!

Potluck…If you’re hosting the party at home, why not turn it into a potluck. Give it a bit of structure by asking some guests to bring salads, some to bring side dishes, and others to bring desserts. Provide a few main courses, such as a large roast, lasagna, poached salmon, or a turkey. Add paper plates, beer, and laughter and you have a recipe for a fun, down-to-earth get together!

Vow Renewal…If you are planning your own anniversary party, why not make it extra-special by including a vow renewal ceremony?

You can make the day a truly memorable one by including the guests in on the fun! Why not host a game-show style game where guests need to answer questions about the couple, such as where they met, their favorite restaurant, the names of their children, etc? Have guests sign a guest book, and showcase a large blown up photograph of the couple on their wedding day.
